The national park is renowned for the Great Wildebeest Migration, an annual occurrence that takes place around July. During this event, more than 3 million wildebeest and zebras migrate from the Serengeti National park in Tanzania in search of greener pasture. The reverse occurs in October and November.
The Amboseli National reserve and Tsavo National Park, located in the southern region of Kenya are also quite fascinating. The national park is famous for its huge herds of elephants. On, the other hand, Tsavo is the largest national park in Kenya and it hosts more than 60 mammal species and close to 1000 plant species. Majority of international travellers reach Kenya by air through Jomo Kenyatta and Mombasa international airports. Nairobi based Jomo Kenyatta International airport, located some 20 km outside the city centre, is the busier of the two and is best for visitors who want to go on tours around Kenya. Passports valid for 3 months from date of entry are required of all visitors. All visitors are also required to have a visa save for citizens of some commonwealth countries.
